The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland’s Rural Professional Group held their annual Rural Technical Briefing in partnership with the South East Region last Friday, 6th of March, in the Ormonde Hotel in Kilkenny.
Pauline Daly, President of the SCSI introduced Phil Hogan, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development who opened the seminar. Also speaking on the day was Breege Lynn, Senior Vice President of Marsh, who discussed professional indemnity and insurance. Jonathan Ginnelly, Tax Manager of Deloitte spoke about taxation issues arising from the Finance Bill and James Staines of Kennedys, solicitor to the IFA delivered a talk on land leases and long term leasing, single farm payments, and the organisation of farm enterprises with regard to shared farming, contract rearing and incorporation.
The Rural Agency Professional Group also launched ‘A Guide to Taxation’ at the Rural Technical Briefing. The member guidance publication was created for the rural agency surveyor in relation to agricultural taxation. The information paper is a second edition and has been updated following recent changes to agri taxation measures in Budget 2015. The paper intends to offer the rural surveyor clarity surrounding the complex area of taxation whilst providing all relevant taxation information together in the one document.
